What is the 180-Day Repack Rule?
Per 14 CFR 105.43, a reserve parachute must be repacked by a certificated rigger within 180 days to remain legal to jump.
An expired reserve isn't a paperwork technicality — it means the one canopy you're relying on if something goes wrong hasn't been inspected or repacked within the required window.
The clock starts on the date printed on the rigger's data card and seal — not your last jump. Jumping the reserve container does not reset it.
Only an FAA-certificated parachute rigger can legally repack a reserve for use. Schedule your repack before the due date, not on it.
