What is Skydiving Currency?

The Definition

Skydiving currency means you've jumped recently enough to maintain your reflexes, emergency procedure memory, and canopy skills at a safe level. USPA sets minimum time windows — if you exceed them, you need supervised jumps before flying solo again.

Why It Matters

Muscle memory degrades. Emergency procedures fade. Pattern recognition slows. Even experienced jumpers can freeze or make poor decisions after a long break. Currency requirements exist because returning skydivers are statistically at higher risk — not because of skill, but because of rust.

How to Regain Currency

For most lapsed licensed jumpers: a ground refresher covering emergency procedures plus one supervised recurrency jump with a USPA Coach or higher is the standard path. For longer lapses, your S&TA will determine the full recurrency program. Never skip this process — it's there to keep you safe.

How to Use This Tool

1

Choose your tab

Select Licensed Jumpers if you hold an A, B, C, or D license. Select AFF Students if you're in the USPA Integrated Student Program (Categories A–H). Select Ratings if you're a USPA Coach, Tandem Instructor, or AFF Instructor.

2

Enter your details

Pick your license level or rating type, then use the date picker to enter your last jump date. For ratings, you may also enter jump counts. Everything updates in real time.

3

Review your status and action plan

The result card shows your currency status with a color-coded rating. If you're lapsed, you'll see a numbered action plan. Always follow up with your local DZ — requirements can vary.
